From mammoth lakes named after literary and political icons to the Ozark waterways, urban community lakes and private ponds, there are many opportunities for anglers to enjoy Missouri bass fishing.
Perhaps you'd like to fish Lake of the Ozarks, one of the best bass lakes in the country for three to five pound fish, with a few nine to ten pound trophy bass caught each year. Truman Lake, named after the president, is 209,000 acres at the high point, a mammoth waterway stocked with bass. Table Rock Lake, in southwest Missouri on the Arkansas border, hosts bass tournaments throughout the year. Bull Shaols Lake, in southern Missouri, is where the state record largemouth bass was caught and Stockton Lake holds the smallmouth record.
Mark Twain Lake, 100 miles northwest of St. Louis, is 18,000 acres. Lake Jacomo in Kansas City, is an urban community lake that provides great bass fishing opportunities.
While many anglers fish the biggest lakes, streams, small lakes and ponds also provide excellent Missouri bass fishing opportunities. Tributaries of the Mississippi River, including the Apple Creek conservation area, the Meramac River and the Salt River are some of the smaller bodies of water where bass swim free. Farm ponds throughout the state are also ideal for bass fishing because their isolation and limited fishing pressure provide a great bass habitat. Many of these ponds are private, so you'll have to check with local authorities about fishing on them.
