ARBOGAST JITTERBUG
ARBOGAST JITTERBUG
VS. THE WALKING WORM
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
One the most revered lures of all time is the Arbogast jitterbug, which has been catching bass and other game fish since 1940. The topwater Arbogast jitterbug features a double cupped lip that produces a loud rhythmic sound that is irresistible to bass and other surface feeding fish.
A Bassluresguide.com angler says the Arbogast jitterbug provides "awesome action when fished in the shallows at night. With the jointed tail, the bass can't resist the side to side action. I've pulled up everything from big bluegill, to 5, 6,7 pound bass, to northerns and musky on the Arbogast jitterbug." The Arbogast jitterbug comes in a variety of colors, from black to white/red head, fire tiger and frog/yellow belly. They're available in five sizes, from 1 1/2" to 4" long.
The Arbogast jitterbug is designed to mimic a frog or large sized bug moving across the water surface.

Another great lure that mimics a live creature is the Walking Worm from www.scientificfishing.com. The Walking Worm isn't quite as old as the Arbogast jitterbug but it's been around for a long time with more than 10 million sold. Its success is based on the fact that bass and other predators love worms and the Walking Worm is based on a patented technology that makes it move on its own like a live worm. The technology traps air between the Walking Worm's tail segments causing it to curl in the water like a live worm.
The Walking Worm beat a crankbait and another worm lure in a test because the crankbait wasn't a worm and the worm lure stopped moving when it hit bottom. The Walking Worm resembles a live worm and doesn't stop moving, so it's the best lure to attract bass and other predators.
The Walking Worm is available in an array of vibrant colors for different water conditions - try it in green pumpkin seed, motor oil, chartreuse and electric blue.
