BASS FISHING RODS

BASS FISHING RODS
FOR A VARIETY OF LURES

By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut

Choosing the best rods are extremely important for catching and landing bass and different bass fishing rods can be used for different types of lures. You can choose from fiberglass or graphite, fast or slow and heavy or light bass fishing rods.

The basic bass fishing rods are made from fiberglass or graphite with material woven into the line, the finer the weave, the faster the action. The rod handle can be made from wood, cork or foam and should fit your hand comfortably. The reel seat should be sturdy with a cut out that allows the rod blank to be felt.

For buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, you'll be casting continuously, so lightweight bass fishing rods are important.

Swimbaits

The Walking Worm has constant curling
action that drives the fish crazy.

If you fish with buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, you'll be casting continuously so lightweight bass fishing rods are important. The rod should be sensitive since fish will bump the blades prior to striking. A 6 to 7 foot rod will give you the best leverage and casting distance.

For crankbaits and topwater lures that require continuous casting you'll also want lightweight sensitive bass fishing rods with medium action at a 6 to 7 foot length.

For worms and jigs, 6 1/2 foot rods work best when fishing 20 to 60 feet deep and longer rods work best for shallower water.

By the way, if you like to fish worm lures, the Walking Worm from www.scientificfishing.com is your best choice. This is the lure that's scientifically designed to trap air between tail segments, which causes the lure move on its own continuously. It looks and moves like a live worm, so it's ideal for catching bass. In fact, world bass champ John Fox caught 19 1/2 and 15 pound bass with the Walking Worm and continues to use it in bass fishing tournaments.
