by Ken Liebeskind

Choosing the best fishing lure is extremely important because it's determines the size of your catch and the size of the fish you catch. The best fishing lures don't just help you catch more fish, they help you catch bigger fish. The problem is there are many different fishing situations and thousands of lures to choose from, so it isn't easy to choose best fishing lure. What you can do is choose the best one for the kind of fishing you'll be doing.
You can choose from top water fishing lures, which fish on the surface of the water and imitate wounded bait fish or frogs. Or pick spinners and spoons, which imitate bait fish, with spinners ideal for trout and smallmouth bass and spoons best for pike. Minnow imitation lures, which are the most popular kind of lure, look like bait fish and come in all sizes and colors.

Some dive a few feet deep and some as much as 30 feet. Rubber worms and grubs are two other kinds of fishing lures, with rubber worms ideal for bass fishing and grubs attached to jig heads used for all kinds of fish.
As you can see, many lures are ideal for specific kinds of fish. Long casting/jigging lures work best for catching trout and pike and have also been found to effectively catch stripers, bluefish, tuna and walleye. Diamond lures, the small sized lures with the diamond top handle, are best for bass, crappie and stripers.
Now I'm going to tell you about a new kind of lure that doesn't fit into the standard categories of the best fishing lure. The Bite Light, from NGC Sports (http://www.scientificfishing.com) is a new electronic lure that blinks blood red to simulate an injured prey. A tiny battery-powered electrical system flashes a blood-red light on the lure's tail when it's moved in water. Fish think it's an injured prey and strike. The lure has set fishing records in Mexico, where 650 large-mouth bass were caught in a 25 hour period by three anglers. The Bite Lite lure catches so many fish that it's been banned in Wyoming!
