By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
Brown trout fishing is popular around the country, with the best occurring in the Great Lakes, but many states make claims about great brown trout fishing that occurs in their waters.
In Arizona, brown trout are found in streams and lakes in the White Mountains and the Mogollon Rim Country. Look for them in streams, deep undercut banks and pools choked with woody debris.
Minnesota features brown trout fishing in the southeastern part of the state and along the North Shore. The southern streams have browns and they can also be fished in Lake Superior. In Colorado, Shawnee Lake is a premiere private trout filled lake an hour from Denver where brown trout can be caught.

Kentucky anglers fish for brown trout in Herrington and Cumberland Lakes.
In New York, the state record for brown trout, which was over 30 pounds, was caught on Lake Ontario. As for brown trout fishing records, another was set on the Big Manistee River in Michigan, when an angler caught a 41 pound 43 inch brownie. Pennsylvania also boasts great brown trout fishing in its lakes and streams.
As you can see, there's great opportunities for brown trout fishing across the country. Now you have to determine the best lures to use to catch big browns. Anglers frequently use spoons, crankbaits and minnow lures to catch big browns. The best new minnow lure is the Titan Minnow from www.scientificfishing.com, which resembles a live minnow and can be fished top water or retrieved to go deep to find big browns wherever they are. Brown trout are larger than brook and rainbow so they go for big lures so the 8" Titan Minnow is ideal for big browns. The big lure is hand painted with 3D eyes and a textured tail to mimic a live minnow, it swims naturally and really works for big browns.
"I tried the Titan Minnow and will keep it my arsenal because it worked great for brown trout fishing," one angler said. "I really like the way it floats top water and goes deep when I retrieve, so I can catch the brownies wherever they are."
