CREEK CHUB OLD WOODEN LURES
CREEK CHUB OLD WOODEN LURES ARE VINTAGE ANTIQUES
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
Creek chub old wooden lures, which debuted around 1921, are renowned as antiques. The lures, made with cedar bodies, were hand painted up to 14 times, with one lure painted with a two-tone design called the wedding veil in deep moss green to simulate fish scales. The wood was treated to prevent cracking or scaling and the creek chub old wooden lures included stainless steel hardware and tinned hooks.
With names like the Injured Minnow, Cray-Z-Fish, Plunker and Darter, Creek chub old wooden lures were renowned for catching fish.

"Maybe it's the way it shimmies through the water with that back hook, giving the impression of fast tail action," a vintage angler said. A Pikie lure, one of the creek chub old wooden lures, held the world record muskie catch, at 69 pounds, 15 ounces.
Today's version of the Creek chub old wooden lures is a Wooden Pikie that offers the traditional wooden construction equipped with ultra heavy-duty hardware. It's designed to catch heavyweight fish, including muskies and stripers.
Many years from now, anglers might look back on http://www.scientificfishing.com's Bite Light lure as the first successful electronic lure. Just as creek chub old wooden lures were the first of their kind, NGC Sports' Bite Light is the first popular electronic lure that utilizes a battery-powered electrical system to flash a blood red light down the lure's tail when it moves in water to simulate an injured prey. This new patented fishing technology, emblematic of the scientifically designed lures that make NGC Sports famous, has already set bass catching records.
