MUSKY LURE
THE BIGGER THE BETTER
FOR MUSKY LURES
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
In many lakes and rivers muskies are the largest fish that swims and they often choose large prey, so the best musky lure is large and able to withstand an aggressive fight. One angler suggests soft plastic swimbaits that imitate fish, frogs or snakes that create lively movements that trigger predators to attack. Another says hard plastic lures and wood crankbaits work best.
Still another angler suggests a wooden floating jerkbait that shimmers and wiggles.

A Wisconsin angler in musky country makes a small silicone skirted tube tail spinner and another offers big wooden lures that feature heavy musky hooks. As you can see, there's a wide variety of musky lures to choose from.
www.scientificfishing.com, the leader in scientifically designed lures, offers the Kick Tail lure based on patented technology that breaks the tail into five segments that wag left and right as water rushes by to simulate the movement of a live fish. The Kick Tail is designed to resemble a threadfin shad, the most prevalent baitfish of all. It comes in a large 7" version that is an ideal musky lure in a variety of colors, including fire tiger, yellow root beer and natural shad.
In a fishing test in Orlando, FL the Kick Tale beat other popular lures three to one, and it also caught larger fish, which makes it an ideal musky lure.
