RAPALA FISH LURES
MEET THE KICKTAIL
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
When it comes to rapala fish lures, everyone knows the Original Floater, the legendary lure introduced in 1936 by Lauri Rapala, who carved a lure from a piece of cork to resemble a wounded minnow. The Original Floater is still popular and is available in a number of sizes and colors. But Rapala, the world's largest lure company, continues to introduce new rapala fish lures that offer variations on the Finnish angler's original idea.
The Flat Rap resembles the original Floater, but features flat sides and a triangle lip that offers faster action. Anglers can pause the Flat Rap rapala fish lures on retrieve and twitch them again to bring them back to life. They can be cast or trolled for different species. The Flat Rap rapala fish lures come in 12 color patterns and two sizes, 3 1/8 and 4" long.

Another one of the new rapala fish lures is the MaxRap, which is longer than the Flat Rap at 5 1/4" and has been designed for maximum casting distance. It features laser engraved scales for a lifelike appearance. The DT Thug is another example of new rapala fish lures with a thicker body that's ideal for bass fishing in rough water. It features a balsa wood construction with a lip designed for quick diving action.
....As you see, there are many rapala fish lures to choose from, but they have strong competition from www.scientificfishing.com, the lure manufacturer from Connecticut that specializes in scientifically designed lures that are incredibly life like. NGC's version of the Original Floater is the KickTail lure with a five part tail that wags left and right. The scientific principle behind the tail is aeronautical flutter technology, which causes the lifelike movement. The result is a lure that moves just like a live fish and has been designed to resemble a threadfin shad, the most popular baitfish.
The KickTail won the Best New Lure award at Europe's largest sports show and has been featured in Game and Fish magazine. It comes in 5" and 7" sizes in a variety of holographic colors, including chartreuse lime and flash gold.
