RUBBER FISHING WORM
RUBBER FISHING WORM A FAVORITE FOR BASS ANGLERS
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
It's the rare bass fisherman who doesn't consider the rubber fishing worm a favorite lure. The rubber fishing worm was invented in 1949 and has had a long and successful history, with the Texas Rig style developed in the 1970s and the Carolina rig soon after.
The rubber fishing worm is popular because it's easy to use. "It's so versatile it can be fished deep, shallow or on the surface," one angler said. "They can be fished slowly or fast, cast, flipped, pitched, vertical jigged and even trolled."
Rubber fishing worms are soft and pliable and feel natural to the predator bass, which sinks its mouth into the rubber like live bait's flesh.

Rubber fishing worms can be fished anywhere and can be fished all year, from the spring and summer, when they're fished fast to attract bass and in the colder months, when a slow retrieve is used.
Rubber fishing worms can be fished at any depth with weight added to get them on the bottom, where fish congregate.
Rubber fishing worms are available in many colors, with darker colors ideal for dark water and lighter colors for clear water.
Today, plastic worms are more popular than rubber fishing worms and one of the best examples is the Walking Worm from www.scientificfishing.com. The company that specializes in scientifically designed lures utilizes a multi-flex construction that traps air between several tail segments that causes the lure to constantly curl to mimic a live worm. Worms are the favorite food for hungry bass and lures that resemble live worms work best. The Walking Worm won a bass contest in Vero Beach, Florida when it caught 100 bass in half a day. |
