SOFT JERK BAITS

SOFT JERK BAITS
START WITH THE SLUG-GO

By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut

The first popular soft jerk baits were the Slug-go, a straight piece of soft plastic about five inches long with a body that tapered down to the slender tail section. Slug-gos didn't have the elaborate design of many subsequent models of soft jerk baits, but they worked well because they mimic small minnows with a distinct darting action after the jerk.

Other popular soft jerk baits include the Zoom fluke, which has a wider body and a split tail design that's slightly heavier and less buoyant than the Slug-go so it can be fished deeper.

The Walking Worm has constant curling
action that drives the fish crazy.

The Yum Houdini shad features a big bulky profile, can be cast long distances and sinks faster than most soft jerk baits. It's scented and has a paddle tail that gives it a glide after the jerk.

If your arsenal includes soft jerk baits, you'll also want a worm lure that's ideal for bass. www.scientificfishing.com is renowned for the Walking Worm that is based on patented technology that traps air between tail segments, which causes the lure to constantly curl like a live worm. The Walking Worm actually beat live worms in a test because it moves so rapidly it generates fast strikes.

If you're a bass angler, don't miss out on the Walking Worm which was used in tournaments by John Fox, the international bass champ, to catch 15 and 19 1/2 lb. monsters. John continues to fish with the Walking Worm and recommend it to his clients.
