SPINNER BAITS
SPINNERBAITS AND NGC'S CRANK N' SPIN MINNOW UTILIZE BLADES
TO CATCH FISH
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
Spinnerbaits refers to any one of a family of fishing lures that get their name from one or more metal blades shaped so as to spin like a propeller when the lure is in motion, creating varying degrees of flash and vibration that mimics small fish.
Spinnerbaits can be fished in any water condition and are available at different depths. They have different kinds of blades, including willowleaf blades, which produce less vibration and work best in clear water for a natural presentation, and Colorado blades, which produce more vibration and are ideal for murky water.
If you're fishing in heavy cover for largemouth bass, spinnerbaits
will hold tight in thick weeds.

Some spinnerbait lures have multiple blades to offer lots of flash and vibration. Spinnerbaits come in a variety of colors with bright or fluorescent shades preferred for murky water.
If you're fishing in heavy cover for largemouth bass, spinnerbaits will hold tight in thick weeds. They work well because the blades attract the bass while keeping your bait from hanging up on the thick weeds.
There are lots of spinnerbaits on the market, including a new lure from www.scientificfishing.com called the Crank n' Spin Minnow that offers spinnerbait and crankbait qualities to double the action. The 4.5" fat bellied shad lure has a sharp blade in the back, like spinnerbaits with metal balls inside that rattle on retrieval, like crankbaits.
"It's an exciting new concept," one angler said. "If you've had success with spinnerbaits or crankbaits, try the Crank n' Spin Minnow, which works like both. It's ideal for bass in murky water."
The Crank n' Spin Minnow comes in three bright colors, baby bass, fire tiger and yellow perch that will shine in muddy water to attract bass.
