WAZZAT LIGHTED LURES
WAZZAT LIGHTED LURES
BLINK RED AND GREEN
by Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
Wazzat lighted lures, so named because when they're seen flashing, other anglers say, "Wazzat?", are electronic lighted lures that flash red and green lights as they swim in the water. The bobber lure's floating, flashing and spinning combination gets the attention of predatory fish.
Wazzat lighted lures were developed by Randy Marks in 1996 and fished on the Columbia River. They were fished during the day time first with much success, then tested at night, with the red blinking light improving visibility, especially when netting fish.
Wazzat lighted lures can be trolled, plunked or used as an attractor and fished with or without bait.

Wazzat lighted lures can be trolled, plunked or used as an attractor and fished with or without bait. Wazzat lighted lures are battery operated and the batteries last about 80 hours and can be replaced. Wazzat lighted lures are available in ten colors, from clear to pink.
The lighted lure that has received the most attention is the Bite Light from www.scientificfishing.com. A battery powered electrical system blinks a blood red light blinks down the lure's tail when it's moved in the water, which mimics an injured prey and is ideal for attracting largemouth bass and other predators. The Bite Lite gives a different presentation with each cast, so if fish misses it on the first flash it will attack the next time. The Bite Lite is available in kits with lures for top, middle and deep water.
The Bite Lite set a fishing record in Mexico when three anglers caught 650 largemouth bass in 25 hours, with each angler averaging a fish every seven minutes. In Florida, the Bite Lite caught three times as many fish as other top-selling lures.
